Scraps and Life

Life is filled with scraps.

Because I sew, and because I recycle old fabrics into new creations, I'm used to scraps.
But this was too much. Feeling overwhelmed as the scraps overflowed the bin . . . "Scrap Happy" I was NOT.

All of these random pieces. Some are new, some are old, some are even hand-me-down scraps. How do they go together? WILL they go together?
Sometimes it feels "too much" and "too hard". Instead of moving forward I get weighed down by all the scraps that I'm not doing anything with, and I keep on "not doing anything".
I ran across a Pin about "Crumb Quilting" (you can find it here: https://pin.it/3rjyMXP) and decided to give it a go. Picking up one piece at a time, sewing two together. Then two more. Slowly piecing them together . . .

And then the pressing. To say pressing is my "least favorite thing to do" would be a huge understatement. But even the pressing - the heat pushing and shaping the backs of these pieces flat, taming them together into something new - was good and purposeful, peaceful even.

I found some embroidery I'd done and never used.
"Seeking His Kingdom".
This was what I was doing, what I was pondering, what I was seeking and finding, as these scraps came together.

In the processing of these scraps - piecing, cutting, pressing, shaping, binding together -there was Jesus. These little scraps became an analogy for me of how Jesus works.
How He works when I give Him rule and reign over all the scraps of my life. All the stuff that doesn't make sense. All the bits I've held onto while waiting. ALL the pieces - even the ones I'm ashamed of. Giving it ALL to Him with open hands.

Because Jesus WILL piece it all together. He will cut away what needs to be discarded. He will press and shape and tame me.
And in the process He will bind us believers all together with all of our scraps - into His new creation.
He takes our pieces, and gives us His peace.
It's not easy. It's not fast. But it's what He does and why HE alone is Savior and Lord. We won't see the full glory of it this side of heaven.
But the Prince of Peace is making us into His masterpiece when we live in Him, Seeking His Kingdom.
Jesus said: 'Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. ' Matthew 6:25,33 CSB
